Poem #22

22. (11-13-19, Lewiston High School)

Sometimes when sight is shifted on someone

It creates a sense not felt on another

Like a mob of gastric butterflies in hurricane winds

And it has everything to do with eyes

There’s something about eyes

They’re significant and profound

The Universe is reflected on their curves

And it’s with these mirrors we see the Universe

Each pair is distinct and beautiful

Like glowing jewels in a chest of gold

Gazed upon with longing by dragons

Achieved by those who are brave and bold

One can’t help but feel within

We’re slaves to our psyche ‘til soil’s embrace

Even if a love is forbidden forever

Sensation’s a mystery of melancholic grace

Though not more than chemical

A structure of protein and matter

Biology’s institutions create all the same

A spiritual wonder and passion within
